Nordic scholarships for Pakistani students exist in Denmark and Norway and in university-run schemes across Sweden and Finland, but none of the four countries offers free tuition to non-EU students. Sweden's flagship Swedish Institute award is the one exception that excludes Pakistan by country list.

The realistic Nordic plan is admission first, university waiver second, and personal funding covering the gap. Treat any page promising free Nordic study for Pakistanis as out of date.

Nordic Scholarships for Pakistani Students: Four Countries Compared

The differences are in dates and in who funds you, not in whether you pay. Use this table to pick one primary country and one backup, since the windows rarely overlap in a way that lets you wait for an answer.

Denmark: The One Country-Wide Scholarship

The Danish Government Scholarship is the closest thing the Nordics have to a country-open award for non-EU students. It is a full or partial tuition waiver and sometimes a living allowance, and most universities consider you for it automatically when they assess admission. CBS and DTU are the exceptions that ask for a separate statement.

Deadlines sit around 1 February 2027 at most institutions, with earlier dates at some. Tuition for non-EU students runs at roughly EUR 6,000 to EUR 16,000 a year depending on subject.

Norway: Pay, and Document the Funds

Norway charged non-EU students nothing before 2023 and now charges tuition, with exemptions limited to exchange, doctoral, Erasmus Mundus and a few named programmes. There is no general government scholarship for non-EU degree students, so expect to pay.

The proof-of-funds requirement for a study permit is NOK 15,488 a month, or NOK 170,368 a year for 2026-2027. Published tuition examples are wide: Oslo master's programmes run NOK 186,000 to 295,000 a year, and UiT runs NOK 100,500 to 351,000. Non-EU application windows close early, with UiT closing on 15 November 2026 for autumn 2027.

Sweden and Finland: What Is Actually Left

Sweden's exclusion is specific. The Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals covers full tuition, SEK 12,000 a month and a SEK 15,000 travel grant across 34 countries, and Pakistan is not one of them. Swedish universities run their own partial awards instead. Our study in sweden for pakistani students 2027 guide sets out the round and the four-year degree rule.

Finland has no state award at all, and its fee waivers are commonly tied to committing early. Abo Akademi, for example, discounts EUR 12,000 to EUR 8,000 for early commitment and adds a EUR 4,000 second-year waiver. See study in finland for pakistani students 2027 for the January window.

Wherever you land, the funding question is rarely answered by one award. Our fund studies abroad without a full scholarship guide covers combining a partial waiver with savings, loans and part-time work.

Choosing Between the Four

Pick on two variables: when the deadline falls relative to your documents, and what share of the cost you can cover without assuming a waiver. A February deadline is useless if your transcript is still being attested, and a full-fee offer you cannot fund is worse than a partial offer you can.

Sweden and Finland both centre on January, which suits applicants who already have final transcripts in hand. Denmark and Norway run later at several institutions but require larger proof-of-funds balances, so the money question surfaces earlier even when the deadline is later.

Consider language and post-study options alongside cost. All four teach English at degree level, and all four have graduate residence routes, but the terms differ, and a year of job search after graduation changes the value of a degree considerably. Our post study work visa comparison 2026 covers what each destination offers after you finish.

How to Sequence Applications

Use one primary country and one backup rather than four simultaneous long shots. A single well-prepared application with a programme you genuinely fit beats four rushed ones, because Nordic selection is competitive at the programme level and weak documents are read as weak applications.

Prepare the shared document set once: degree certificate, full transcript with marking key, passport, English test, and a motivation letter drafted to be adapted rather than rewritten. That set serves all four systems, and having it finished before January is the difference between choosing your destination and accepting whatever still has places.

Watch the money dates as closely as the academic ones. Sweden requires fees and documents by 1 February 2027, Finland closes its window on 21 January 2027, and proof-of-funds figures are revised annually, so confirm the current rate before you show money to anyone.

Our complete timeline fall intake scholarships lays out the shared calendar across destinations, and common scholarship application mistakes to avoid lists the document and deadline errors that cost applicants their place most often.

What the Proof-of-Funds Rule Really Means

Proof of funds is assessed alongside admission, not after it, and the required figure changes annually. Norway published NOK 15,488 a month for 2026-2027, and the Dutch figure of EUR 1,130.77 a month is the closest equivalent in the wider region. Confirm the current rate before you show money to anyone, because last year's figure will not be accepted.

The money must be liquid and available to you. Locked deposits that mature after your application date, or funds held in a sponsor's account without a supporting relationship document, are the two most common reasons for a query. Our proof of funds study abroad pakistan 2026 guide sets out the format banks and consulates accept from Pakistani applicants.
