To study in Sweden for Pakistani students in 2027, apply through universityadmissions.se in the first round, which opens on 16 October 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Pakistan qualifies for admission, but it is not on the country list for the Swedish Institute scholarship, so funding has to come from the universities themselves.
Sweden is straightforward on entry and blunt on money: admission is open, tuition is not, and the flagship scholarship you have probably read about does not accept Pakistani applicants.

Study in Sweden for Pakistani Students: Dates and Requirements
Everything runs through the national portal, universityadmissions.se. For autumn 2027 the first international round opens 16 October 2026 and closes 15 January 2027. Fees and documents are due by 1 February 2027, and master's admission results are published on 1 April 2027.
Two entry rules trip Pakistani applicants. The degree must be a four-year bachelor's of at least 124 credits, or a bachelor's plus a master's, because a three-year degree does not satisfy general entry. And you need an approved English test, since Pakistani qualifications are not automatically accepted as proof of English.
The application fee is 900 SEK per semester of application, paid once, and it applies to every non-EU/EEA applicant. It is non-refundable, so do not file until your documents are ready.

The Funding Gap Pakistani Students Face
The Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals is the award that makes Sweden famous: full tuition, SEK 12,000 a month and a SEK 15,000 travel grant. Its 34 eligible countries do not include Pakistan. That is a country-list decision rather than a merit decision, and no application strength changes it.
What remains is university-run funding. Swedish institutions set their own tuition waivers and scholarships, they are applied for with the admission file or through the university's own form, and they are partial far more often than full. Ask each university directly what its waiver covers and for how many years, because a first-year discount that ends in year two is a different proposition from a three-year reduction.
Tuition itself is set per programme, so get the figure from the programme page rather than a country average before you decide anything.
What To Do This Month
Register on the portal now rather than in January, because account verification and document uploads are what slip. Get the degree equivalence question answered early: if your transcript does not clearly show four years and 124 credits, ask the university to confirm in writing before you pay the 900 SEK fee.
Then line up two or three Swedish programmes alongside a backup country. Our study in finland for pakistani students 2027 guide covers a neighbouring system with a January window, and nordic scholarships for pakistani students compares all four countries side by side.
For the wider funding picture, our scholarships for pakistani students to study abroad 2026 guide ranks what Pakistani applicants can realistically win, and ielts score required for visa by country confirms which English test each destination accepts.
What the Swedish Application Actually Requires
Your application is one file assembled on the portal, and the parts that take longest are not the form. Transcripts, degree certificates and the English test result all have to be uploaded as clear scans, and Swedish admissions assess documents rather than award titles, so a transcript without a key legend invites a query.
Programme entry requirements are published per programme and can add to the general rules. Some master's degrees ask for a specific bachelor's subject, a minimum number of credits in a named field, or a statement of purpose. Read the requirements tab for each programme you rank, because ranking a programme you cannot enter costs you a slot in the four-quota ranking.
Ranking matters more than most applicants expect. You submit up to four programme choices in order, and admission is offered against your ranking rather than against the first available place. A realistic second and third choice is worth more than four ambitious ones, because an unfilled ranking is simply a wasted application.
Payment of the 900 SEK fee has to clear before the deadline, not be initiated before it. Bank transfers from Pakistan can take several days, and an unpaid application is treated as no application at all. Pay at least a week early and keep the receipt attached to your portal record.
Funding Beyond Tuition Waivers
Tuition is only half the cost. Living costs in Swedish cities run high, and Swedish law permits international students to work, but part-time work is not a funding plan: Swedish is usually expected for anything beyond casual roles, and the first months are the hardest.
Build the budget around the tuition waiver you actually have rather than the one you hope for. If a university offers a 25 or 50 per cent waiver, calculate the remaining balance and confirm you can cover it for the full programme length before you accept the place. Our study abroad cost and budget guide sets out how to build that budget without assuming income you cannot rely on.
If Sweden comes out too expensive, a Finnish or Danish application in the same cycle is a better answer than an underfunded start. Our study abroad loan in pakistan 2026 guide covers what lenders require and how much of a master's cost a typical loan will realistically cover.
Language is the other lever. English-taught programmes mean you do not need Swedish to study, but learning it before you arrive changes what work and internships are open to you during the degree.
